Special Education

We would love to see each of our Sunflowers in school, learning and growing together with their peers.

At the moment there are very limited resources for those who have complex needs to attend school in Northern Uganda. Many of our Sunflowers need adaptive devices to communicate, and equipment for movement and basic learning skills, which are not easily accessible here. It is important to us that teachers and assistants that work directly with our children are well trained and equipped to love and care for our children well. It is our aim to provide the adequate knowledge and skills based learning that is needed to provide this type of inclusive and caring education. We are still in the very early stages of assisting schools in our area to provide this type of education. We have begun running simple inclusion and special education workshops for interested schools and children centres in Arua.

We hope to begin resourcing, training, and equipping target schools to work towards a model special education classroom, the first of its kind in this area.
